Enhancing health and comfort through innovative pain management

Developed by Clinicians Who Saw an Unmet Need

Two clinicians experienced in regional anesthesia, working with a general surgery colleague, identified a recurring challenge in procedural care: clinicians needed additional local anesthetic options that could support individualized procedural and post-procedural treatment plans.

Existing approaches do not fit every patient, procedure or clinical workflow. The development team explored whether established anesthetic ingredients could be combined in a different formulation to give clinicians another option when an FDA-approved product is not medically appropriate for a particular patient.

Enduracaine™ / Endura-KT™ was developed from the firsthand clinical experience of Ventis Pharma founders Dr. Larry Volz, Dr. Lou Stanfield, and Dr. Jeremy Poulsen. Through their work in surgery, anesthesia, and perioperative care, they recognized important limitations with the local anesthetic options available for nerve blocks, compartment blocks, and surgical-site infiltration.

Existing local anesthetics can present clinical tradeoffs, including cardiovascular effects, unwanted motor blockade or muscle weakness, and durations of analgesia that may not adequately address extended postoperative pain-management needs. These limitations were particularly relevant in procedures where clinicians wanted reliable local anesthesia without unnecessarily compromising motor function or requiring repeated intervention as the initial anesthetic effect diminished.

These clinical challenges became the foundation for the development of a new local anesthetic formulation. The objective was to create a non-opioid analgesic option designed to provide prolonged local pain control while supporting a favorable clinical and safety profile. The formulation was developed with the goal of extending the duration of local anesthesia, reducing unwanted motor effects, decreasing reliance on postoperative opioids where clinically appropriate, and helping clinicians improve the overall postoperative pain-management experience.

Rather than simply modifying an existing product, the founders approached the development process from the perspective of practicing clinicians asking a fundamental question: could a local anesthetic formulation be designed to better address the duration, tolerability, and practical limitations they were seeing in everyday patient care?

That clinical need ultimately led to the development of the Endura platform. Endura-KT™ represents the compounded formulation currently available through an FDA-registered cGMP facility, while Enduracaine™ represents Ventis Pharma’s investigational product being developed through the FDA approval pathway.

The development of Enduracaine™ / Endura-KT™ therefore reflects Ventis Pharma’s broader objective of advancing non-opioid pain-management technologies designed around real-world clinical needs and the potential to improve postoperative pain-management strategies and patient outcomes.

02 · Objective

The Development Objective

The team focused on a sterile, preservative-free formulation that combined tetracaine, lidocaine and epinephrine at dilute concentrations. Their objective was to create an additional local anesthetic option for licensed healthcare professionals to evaluate within their own clinical judgment and protocols.

That work became Endura-KT: a compounded formulation intended for professional use in procedural settings.

03 · Mission

The Mission

Our mission is to expand clinician access to thoughtfully developed, opioid-free local anesthetic options for procedural and post-operative care. Through responsible education, consistent product quality and clinician-directed use, we aim to support informed clinical decision-making and a better patient-care experience.
